STUDY BIBLES

Although study Bibles may seem like a fairly recent innovation, their roots go back hundreds of years. The features that characterize contemporary study Bibles, such as cross-references, footnotes with historical and theological information, maps, illustrations, and introductions to books, can be seen in early English versions as well as in the Luther Bible. A cursory examination of some of these ancient Bibles makes them appear as not too different from their contemporary cousins.
